  6. Use cool water and mild, sulfate-free shampoo to wash your hair.

Next, you will need to steam the oil to penetrate the hair cuticle. If you own one, you can steam your hair with a steamer. You can also dip a towel into hot water and then wrap it around your head. Step 3. Shampoo your hair to remove the oil.
